Parking

There is a vey bumpy lay-by directly opposite the entrance to Sandgate Lane with space for 4 or 5 cars. There are more spaces in tarmacced lay-bys going north on Water Lane that are only a short walk away along the pavement.

Terrain

Nice flat walk. There are some gravel paths running the main routes which seem very new as in good condition. There are some woodland trails which are a bit bumpy in places and I'm sure boggy in winter, but not hilly at all here.

Water

This is a great spot for water loving dogs. There's several ponds and streams, most with low banks and shallow entrances to the water. To reach these though you need to follow the woodland trails, you won't get to them by staying on the gravel paths.

Poo Bins

Couple of poo bins right by the information board at the beginning of the walk.

Local Info

Literally just across the road is Sullington warren which is another great walk featured on this site - a few minutes down the road there's also Warren Hill walk.

Walk Distance:

Author Review

This is a really lovely place to walk, and whilst fairly short there's lots to see and the terrain is very easy going. It can be busy on nice days with joggers, dog walkers and families on days out -there's lots of benches dotted around so it is a popular picnic and meeting up location.

The info board by the entrance shows the simple route if you want to stick to the gravel paths, and this is a nice walk in itself past some huge old trees, and with views over the quarry and up to the downs.

If you want to explore the woodlands ands ponds though you need to take the first left turn shortly down the main route. This leads you into the woods and over the first stream, the paths are easy to navigate and there's a diverse range of trees and shrubbery you'll pass. after 5 or 10 minutes following this path there's a left turn which is worth taking as this leads you up to further ponds and the quaint little bridges you can see in my pictures. The path eventually leads you back round to join the main track to come back and the whole walk is just over 2km.

There are lots of open areas too and it's very secure with fencing at all perimeters that I saw. Hank was on the lead probably 50% of the time here, only going on as we passed other people and dogs but loving the off lead time too with plenty of space to run.
