Several very bumpy lay-bys on either side of the road with limited spaces available. Can be a popular place at peak times. *At time of writing long-term road closure on Borde Hill Lane, so can only be accessed from Balcombe direction.
First part is very flat through field paths, and then to get the reservoir it is up a fairly big hill. Several kissing gates and a couple of stepped bridges. One bridge does have bars you need to step over, Hank managed to go down the side through a gap and across the stream - not sure if that's possible in wetter seasons though.
The first part of the walk is along the river which is pretty, but high banks and we couldn't find a way down to the water. Make it to the reservoir though and it's a great spot for a dip.
No bins here.
Borde Hill Gardens with lovely cafe is just up the road.
On one side if the road the towering viaduct is just 100m away or so, so we trekked over there just to check it out and get some nice pictures. The main walk really starts by heading back and crossing the road again where through the kissing gate you walk along the river through several fields. There's some great open space here and lots of room to run about. I actually intended to also walk through the woods to the right as well, but once here these are clearly signed as off-limits and private property so just followed the river until we came to a permissible bridge.
There's a couple of bridges then that lead up a hill and the path is signposted to the right, where it's not too far and you come out at the entrance to the reservoir. There's a great shallow stone beach for dogs to access the water dead ahead, and we let Hank have a play and then headed back the way we came. If you wanted a longer walk or to watch the sailors at the reservoir for a bit there's plenty of walkways and space to do this.
Several of the fields are used for grazing so watch out for that, the only cows we saw today were safely on the other side of the river though.
