Parking

Head into the car park for the Onslow arms, and the canal car park is straight through this. Decent size and free.

Terrain

Nice easy flat walk. Mix of gravel paths, muddy woodland paths and grassy field routes. Lots of gates, only a couple of stiles but Hank only just managed to squeeze under the gaps by the side.

Water

The canal is very calm but is a working canal with boats and locks. Are a couple of shallow places that dogs can get in.

Poo Bins

Poo bins by the road at the start and end of the walk.

Local Info

Right on the doorstep of the Onslow Arms which has a fantastic beer garden overlooking the canal.

Walk Distance:

4.7km

Author Review

From the car park head left along the river and under the bridge and you walk alongside the canal for around 2.5km. Cross the bridge at the Gennets Bridge Lock (looks fantastic with 2018 restoration and someone clearly keeping it maintained very well!) and then shortly after follows the narrow path sign posted on your right. This is where the stiles are so if you don't want to tackle these you can just go back the way you came. After the first stile go straight across the field, and then the path takes you through some paddocks, after the next still go immediately right, and then follow this route all the way back to Loxwood high street, and it's a right along the road back to the car park.

On this last bit of road walking there is pavement but is very narrow at points, so maybe avoid if your dog is scatty around cars as there's not much room to move and the road is quite busy! There were a few signs for grazing animals but we didn't see any, most paths are used by horses too but again we didn't;t see any today. The canal part of the walk is a little busier and we passed a few other walkers and some cyclists, the second half is very quite though and we didn't see any one else form there on. Hank was on and off the lead here for precaution, but most of it is pretty secure for off-lead walking.
