Parking

Couple of narrow lay-bys on the west side of the bridge. Entrance to the walk is through the metal gate next to the bridge on the south side.

Terrain

Mostly it is very flat here, although a couple of sections through woodland with a couple of small, fairly steep hills and some steps in parts. Some paths are uneven and narrow. There are lots of stiles and gates here, Hank just about managed to squeeze through all the gaps without me having to lift him, but if your dog is bigger than him you will struggle.

Water

Much of the walk is alongside the river, but in the main the banks are too high to access but there are a couple of shallow entry points. There is also a large lake which although has very thick overgrown edges, again there are a couple of open points to get to the water.

Poo Bins

No bins here

Local Info

Is exactly opposite the road to our other walk - Newbridge Wey and Arun Canal. Limeburners pub is just around the corner too.

Author Review

If you want a walk through pretty countryside, away from the crowds then this is ideal. It's not a quick walk, to make a loop it's just under 6km but great for a Sunday stroll to wear your dog out!

The walk takes you through open fields, woodlands, past the river and lake and culminating in the old Lock bridge. You are often walking through grazing fields too, we walked through fields of sheep, cows, and horses so whilst there are lots of open areas for free off-lead running, there's also lots of parts where you'll need to keep you dog on their lead too so be sure to keep an eye out.

As you walk through the gate, and through the first field you come to a junction where the path goes straight on, or left over the small bridge and up the hill. This is basically the start and end of the loop so you can go either way and you'll end up coming back to this point the other way.

We took a left which takes you through a couple of grazing fields, and then on to a private road for a small section. When you're on this road keep on the lead as you nearly get to Lordings Road, but just before there's a gate on your right and the path leads you through some more fields and down towards the lake. The paths are generally well signposted, but as always I'd recommend a gps app here as it's a fairly long walk anyway so you want to make sure you're on the right track.

Just before you get to the Lock bridge, there's a path on your right on a tight turn that takes you back on the return leg. So if you want to go up to the Lock bridge you just have to come back on yourself a short while to take this route.
