At the Parish Church Car park Kendal LA9 5AP, there are plenty of spaces and no height barriers to prevent large vehicles park. Terrain

This is a circular walk visiting the River Kent and Kendal Castle. The castle dates from the 12th century, sitting in a prominent position above the town on Castle Hill. You can walk around the ruins and enjoy views over the town and the surrounding countryside. This is a walk that will take you through all parts of the town, starting with a river walk next to the Grade I listed Kendal Parish Church. The pathway is a well-maintained path beside the river. The route then climbs to the castle on well-maintained public footpaths, taking you onto a grass bank that ascends to the castle. After exploring the castle and the photographic views, the walk descends back to the roads which will lead you back to the river where you can enjoy another waterside stroll before returning to the start point.

Water

There is the river but it is not suitable for Dogs to swim in.

There are poo Bins along the river walk and the Castle area.

Local Info

After taking your dog for a beautiful walk you could have a walk into town for a beverage or just a sightseeing visit. If you head west of the town you can enjoy a climb to Scout Scar. This is an excellent viewpoint to see some of the most well-known Lakeland fells. There is also nice footpaths running south along the River Kent which will take you towards the Sizergh Castle. The National Trusted owned estate contains miles of footpaths with pretty gardens, a lake and woodland.

Author Review

This was a great walk to see part of Kendal without actually walking into town. The views were fantastic when you got to the Castle and a great place to let your dog off to have a run around. There were lots of families enjoying picnics at the Castle but nowhere you could purchase a drink or an ice cream.
