Blenheim Palace is a beautiful day out for you and your dog, with a fantastic mix of open fields, woodland, lakes and stunning formal gardens to explore.

There are several recommended walking routes around the estate:

The Formal Gardens 1.5 miles | Approximately 1 hour A lovely route through the formal gardens, and suitable for wheelchair and buggy users.

The Lake 0.75 miles | Approximately 35 minutes A shorter circular route around the lake. Wheelchair and buggy users are recommended to return via the Rose Garden after reaching the Cascade.

The Park Perimeter 4.6 miles | Approximately 2 hours A longer dog-friendly route around the perimeter of the park, with some steeper slopes. It is also suitable for wheelchair and buggy users.

There are plenty of options, and you can also create your own route depending on how far you want to walk and which areas you would like to explore. On this occasion, we followed the Blue Route, but we will definitely be returning to try some of the others!

We timed our visit perfectly for Autumn Paws Outdoors, when dogs are permitted in the Formal Gardens between 1 September and 4 October. So, of course, we took full advantage of it! Riley, Sonny and Wilson had a fabulous time exploring the grounds, and there is plenty of space and variety to keep both dogs and humans entertained. One of the things we particularly liked about Blenheim Palace is that dogs are welcome throughout almost the whole site, provided they remain on a lead. For owners of anxious or reactive dogs, including Dogs in Yellow, this can make exploring the grounds much less stressful. You can enjoy your walk without constantly worrying about an off-lead dog running over to say hello. It is always worth remembering that every dog is different, but having a clear lead requirement throughout the site certainly makes it a more comfortable environment for dogs who need a little extra space.

There are also plenty of pheasants happily plodding around the grounds! For dogs with a high prey drive, this is definitely something to bear in mind. Keeping your dog on a lead is not only part of the site rules, but also particularly sensible when you have wildlife around. With several different routes, beautiful scenery and plenty to explore, there is easily enough here to justify coming back more than once.

A membership is required to gain access, but with the number of trails and different areas to explore, we think you could get really good value from joining and returning throughout the year. And if you're planning a visit soon, Blenheim Palace is also hosting DogFest on 3–4 October, making this an especially exciting time for dog lovers to visit. Walking routes and further information:
