Parking

We stayed at the camp site and walked from there, you can park at the site even when you aren't staying at the camp I think it was £5 for all day payable at reception.

Terrain

Very flat walk from camp a little bumpy in places along the river and will be a little wet in the cooler seasons.

Water

Potentially places along the river to dip in but it is fast flowing and deep in places so would not recommend in the peak of rainy seasons etc.

Poo Bins

Plenty available on route.

Local Info

Prince Llewelyn Hotel in Beddlegert, dog friendly restaurant and hotel rooms and can highly recommend the food. We stayed at Cae Du campsite, which literally had absolutely everything a camper could need, dog wash, shop, showers, stunning scenery, we honestly didn't want to leave! www.caeducampsite.co.uk

Author Review

If you're looking for a dog walk with a difference, the Beddgelert Dog Story Walk is a lovely little adventure combining beautiful Welsh scenery with one of the area's most famous legends.

Starting at the wonderful campsite Cae Du near the picturesque village of Beddgelert, the walk follows the River Glaslyn towards Gelert's Grave, where you'll discover the tragic tale of Gelert, the faithful hound of Prince Llywelyn. According to the legend, Gelert bravely protected the prince's baby from a wolf, but was sadly mistaken for having harmed the child.

The story has made Gelert's resting place one of the most well-known attractions in the area. And of course you need to take a stick to the grave, the loveliest pile of sticks taken by walkers is next to the stones, it's heartwarming.

The route itself is a easy walk, making it a great option if you're looking for something shorter and manageable for dogs and humans alike. You'll enjoy riverside scenery, woodland surroundings and the beautiful village of Beddgelert along the way.
