There is parking available just along the road from the pub in a lay-by. The pub also has its own car park, but if you choose to use it, please make sure you support the pub by stopping in for a drink or something to eat.
Nice flat walk. There are a couple of stiles and it is slightly bumpy in places being along a river.
We did this walk during a particularly dry spell, which meant we were actually able to walk along part of the riverbed. However, outside of dry periods, I can imagine the river becoming very deep and fast-flowing, so please be mindful of the conditions and keep a close eye on how far your dog ventures into the water. There are multiple points along the route where dogs can safely access the river and get in and out of the water, making this a great walk for water-loving pups. Just be sure to check the river conditions before setting off and use your judgement on the day.
Only at the beginning of the walk.
This is a fantastic circular walk that starts and finishes at the The Bunch of Carrots, a super dog-friendly pub with a lovely large beer garden—perfect for relaxing after your walk. They also offer a Sunday carvery, which smelled absolutely delicious when we visited! We didn't get to try it ourselves this time, but it certainly looked and smelled very tempting. Definitely one to add to the list for a future visit!
There are plenty of opportunities for dogs to be off lead on this walk, but as always, make sure you remain aware and vigilant around livestock. When we visited, we encountered sheep and some wild horses along the route, so keeping your dog under control is important.
There was also one field we had originally planned to walk through, but there were some extremely friendly cows with their calves in there. Rather than risk disturbing them, we decided not to enter the field and instead retraced our steps before taking the main road, which has a pathway, for the final section of the walk.
As this is such a lovely flat route, we found it to be a great recovery walk—perfect for a more gentle stroll without too many hills or strenuous sections.
